Flexographic Technical Association’s (FTA) TEST
program is pleased to announce a generous donation from EskoArtwork. The global supplier
of innovative solutions for packaging, printing and publishing, has donated a complete suite of
flexo-related software in the spirit of advancing the development of the association’s FIRST Operator Certification Program.
Included in the donation are multiple accounts of editing & sheet layout modules, workflow
automation, color management, output & imaging programs, 3D design applications and online collaboration solutions.
Janoschka and Kroma bring DLS to Turkey (23.08.2010)
Prepress suppliers Janoschka and Kroma in Izmir/TR have sealed their common intention to
found a joint venture of equal parts for the manufacture of DLS cylinders in Turkey. This very first installation of a Direct Laser System in the Turkish market place will bring diversified benefits to the tobacco, food and other flexible packaging branches.
The alliance between these leading market players is the perfect base to meet the quality requirements of local and international clients. It combines Kroma’s local market know-how on one
side with Janoschka’s quality and production standards and its Direct Laser expertise on the other side. Production start is planned for beginning of 2011.
New Zealand's Rank Group acquires Pactiv Corp. (19.08.2010)
New Zealand's Rank Group acquired Pactiv Corp. in a deal valued at USD 6 billion. Pactiv will become part of Rank's Reynolds Group Holdings subsidiary, which makes food and beverage packaging and storage products, including Reynold's Wrap Aluminum foil.
Rank came out as the winning bidder, over rival paper and packaging company Koch Industries Inc, based in Kansas/USA, and private-equity firm Apollo Global Management.
Bilcare acquires global films business from Ineos (03.08.2010)
The group providing pharmaceutical packaging which enables drug stabilisation and protection has acquired the global films business from Great Britain-headquartered Ineos Group. The transaction price is approximately EUR 100 million. The deal comprises the business, assets and personnel related to Ineos Films operations located in North America, Europe, and Asia. The two companies said the agreement »brings together complimentary capabilities and synergies of two leading global businesses«.
Ineos Films manufactures products for pharmaceutical blister packaging, films for printing and decoration, shrink film for sleeves, capsules and plastic credit cards. The company employs around 1300 people across manufacturing sites in Germany, Italy, India and North America. It has the capacity to produce around 140,000 tonnes of films per annum and has a turnover of around EUR 240 million. Bilcare offers pharma packaging and research, global clinical trial supplies services and has particular expertise in anti-counterfeiting technology. Its manufacturing and research facilities are in India, Singapore, USA and Great Britain.
Flexo screening awarded (02.08.2010)
he Printing Industries of America has awarded the Kodak Digicap NX Screening technology with a »2010 InterTech Technology Award«. The awards will be presented during GraphExpo in Chicago in October.
Lottery ticket presses for China (28.07.2010)
Italian Nuova Gidue has signed an order for two major press lines with Beijing Printing Second Factory. The project includes two separate presses, one with an undisclosed number of offset print heads, the second with an undisclosed number of flexographic print groups.
The two separate projects are the result of a long-term design cooperation, and they go under the name of Gidue LTF 530 and Gidue LTO 530. They are using flexo and offset technologies which have been extensively redesigned to meet the lottery tickets special requirements. The delivery of both presses is due by end of 2010.

Apex opens new headquarters (23.07.2010)
After intensive project planning and having finalized several chapters of construction the new production and office building of the Apex Group of Companies in Hapert/NL is completed and opened officially in the first week of July.
Especially the R&D department has larger facilities as has a new auditorium for in-house seminars and trainings.
The opening was celebrated with more than 70 representatives coming from 26 countries.
Amcor sells Spanish operation to secure Alcan businesses (22.07.2010)
Amcor has reached an agreement to sell its Tobepal flexible packaging operations in Spain to Constantia Packaging for EUR 92 million. The divestment was required by the European Commission at the time of approving Amcor’s acquisition of parts of the Alcan Packaging business. The divestment has now been approved with the deal expected to be finalised within the coming months.
Amcor had bought Tobepal in 2002 for an undisclosed amount, which included three plants, one at Burgos and two at Logroño, with combined sales of EUR 74 million.
Prof. Dr. Alexander Tsyganenko new Honorary Professor at HdM (20.07.2010)
The Stuttgart/D-based Hochschule der Medien (HdM) - Stuttgart Media University - has appointed Prof. Dr. Alexander Tsyganenko, Rektor of the Moscow State University of Printing Arts, as Honorary Professor to recognise his merits in the long standing co-operation of the two universities.
